Offsetting Travel Carbon Emissions
There is no disguising that travel does have an effect on the environment. Whilst our individual carbon emissions may be small they all have a combined effect over time.
More and more companies are using carbon offsetting as a tool to indirectly reduce the overall impact of their activities on the environment. A carbon offset is a financial contribution to fund environmental projects around the world. Such projects directly reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses entering the atmosphere. Typical projects include;
- Restoration of rainforest habitats – absorbing CO2 as more, new trees grow.
- Bio-energy projects – creating biomass fuels from crop waste which, in developing countries is usually burnt in the field.
- Re-planting of ancient British woodland.
- Provision of efficient cooking stoves in the developing world – which use less fuel and reduce the serious health problems caused by direct inhalation of smoke.
Good voluntary carbon offset projects bring together renewable energy goals, CO2 absorption and poverty alleviation. However, good, well designed and well managed schemes are hard to come by. That’s why we have chosen to partner with Climate Care, an organisation which manages effective, sustainable projects all over the world.
If you so choose we can use Climate Care to calculate the carbon effect of an individual business flight or your companies entire air travel. Details of every flight will be sent to Climate Care who will invoice you directly each quarter. An offset certificate will also be forwarded. Please note that Duke’s Sports Travel does not gain financially either way from this arrangement.
